Hey guys - last night on the SOTU event I clicked on a URL that someone shared and it redirected directly from the HP page rather than opening a new browser window. It disrupted my HP experience - would have been nice to not loose the continuity on HP... Thanks!

I think greater Twitter integration would be good. The option to register with Facebook or Twitter would be helpful. I tend to use these types of apps more with Twitter and prefer to keep outside apps off my Facebook account. Thanks.

Karen, greater twitter integration is indeed on the way and as Justin said, we will be moving away from requiring either Facebook or Twitter to create an account. Something to note though: Registering on a site or service via Facebook Connect is very different from associating or adding an application (like say, Farmville) to your Facebook profile. There is no inherently public aspect to using Connect; all that activity is unavailable to friends / viewers of your profile.

On the events issue, if you could integrate invites from facebook so that we are ready to go when attending, that would rock!

Is hot potato identifying friends from Twitter and FB or just FB? Would def like to see both if not...

Both, but we haven't yet surfaced most of the friend related functionality. Thus will come in the next iPhone release.

For video sharing--try Thwapr.com. Its mobile to mobile video sharing--maybe make a deal with them for video.

Either dump fb-connect entirely or supplement it with an e-mail or OpenID based auth system. I know you guys get a lot of stuff for free from fb-connect, but it's trivial functionality. Alas some people (like my hubby) are not on facebook and can't use the app at al.

Hi, Yvette. We definitely agree that FB-connect has a number of inherent compromises and are evaluating solutions for making it an optional part of our service, but please understand that the value it provides us is far from trivial. In an event with even just a 100 participants, filtering messages by a users 1st and 2nd degree connections on Facebook and those they follow on Twitter makes a huge difference in terms of relevance and digestibility, especially when using the service on a mobile device. Thanks again for the feedback!

The ability to request an invite to a private event could be cool.

We're prototyping private and agree there is a need for it. It likely will need to wait for the next iphone release to be "official" but its in progress.

Anybody else feeling the need for private events?

no

Not at all. That is what friend events are for.
8 months, 3 weeks ago
I would. I think, once this really takes off, an unhelpful element may creep in, ruining events with negative or even obscene comments. We've all seen Internet trolls hijack open comment threads before. Privacy isn't completely dead just yet.

Karen, agreed. We've placed an emphasis on real identity for exactly that reason, and in larger events, are implicitly limiting the scope of someone you don't know's comments/messages for similar reasons. Lots more to come on this front though, including private events ;)

You should be able to see the events that are closest to where you are.

Christopher, on the iphone this is working right now. in the suggested events category, if an event is nearby it will be at or near the top of the list.

I like this idea!

You should be able to search by catagory of event.

Agreed. We're still working on the best way to categorize, but you should expect to see something along these lines via tagging/search.

On It. Don't forget to drop it like the sparkly disco circle should be. Hot ? NYE waits all year to drop her shiny-ness for Dick Clark... assuming the kryptonite didn't get him down this time. Superman is a shiny flash in the pan every once in a while. Lane loves Kent because they flash unseasonably warm year round waiting to see who will host the NYE for the year's end. Who should host the celebration after the confetti gets swept? It is cold messy. If Dick aint better than 15 minutes of fame, then he dont pick up the broom for the rest of them shreds of scrappy papers. He wont always have a mess to sweep. hope he enjoys the dirt he puts under his own nails for every grain that got under. When he doesn't sparkle for every fleck that shines when the sun hits him just right... I hope he glittered while waiting for last year to pass. When you wish upon a star your dreams mayk come true. come around instead of shooting for a mere momentary lapse of a 15 minute second. Long Live dick!!! LOL y or io is a whorm
